Wednesday 1st June 2016.
We were still in our winter togs today although it wasn’t as
cold as it was last week.
We carried on with some R.T.I. photography and
surveying/recording of gravestones at the west end of the churchyard, and made
good progress.
The day was pretty uneventful until just before we packed up
for the day – there was a huge kerfuffle in the trees above us as a sparrowhawk
swooped down causing pandemonium amongst the local birdlife. It managed to
catch a small bird, but then lost it –
we couldn’t see where the bird had gone or whether it as okay. The birds all around
us continued with their alarm calls for nigh on ten minutes or so – a cacophony
of various different calls producing a wall of sound. But the sparrowhawk had
flown away, having lost its advantage of surprise.
